US President-elect Donald Trump (L) and Pete Hegseth, Trump’s nominee to become secretary of defense and Pentagon chief. | FPJ Web Team
US President-Elect Donald Trump may not have taken ‘full-time’ charge of the Oval Office but it appears that he has started firing people already. Wall Street Journal has now reported that Trump is thinking of dropping Pete Hegseth, the person he himself nominated to head Pentagon. The report suggests that Trump is now thinking of Ron DeSantis for the post.
What’s the issue with Hegseth?
Trump has nominated Pete Hegseth for the position of Secretary of Defense, which made him next chief of Pentagon. The nomination was made last month.
However, serious things began emerging about Hegseth especially when his own mother said that he has mistreated many women and shows ‘lack of character’.
“I have no respect for any man that belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around and uses women for his own power and ego. You are that man (and have been for years) and as your mother, it pains me and embarrasses me to say that, but it is the sad, sad truth,” Hegseth’s mother was quoted as saying by The New York Times.
There were also concerns that whether Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host and former army veteran, would be a fit for a role with huge global exposure given his inexperience at top posts.
Instead of Hegseth, Trump has been reported to be considering Ron DeSantis for the post. DeSantis has in past, been Trump’s competitor within the Republican Party for presidential nomination.
In spite of reports doing rounds, there has been no official word from Trump, Hegseth or DeSantis.
