Mira-Bhayandar: Girls from various educational institutions in the twin-city clinched the top spot in the 42nd edition of the Mumbai Upnagar Ajinkyapadh Nivad Chachani Spardha-2024 (under 16 female category) which is ongoing at the Dadoji Konddev ground in the Charkop area of Kandivali.

Notably, the participants of the team named- Shree Balyogi Sadanand Baba Academy were voluntarily trained by fire officer-Sadanand Patil at an indoor hall in Rai village which is equipped with high-quality mats and other facilities provided by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) to enhance the safety and performance of players.

The two-week long tournament between 30 November to 12 December is being held under the aegis of the Mumbai Upnagar (Suburban) Kabaddi Association. Municipal commissioner-Sanjay Katkar felicitated the team members and their coach at the main administrative building of the civic body on Thursday.

Promising to enhance facilities for budding players, Katkar said, “We are proud of the girls and their coach for living up to the expectations of the twin-city by clinching the top slot through sheer dedication and hard work.” “Apart from shouldering my responsibilities as a fireman, I have been conducting practice sessions twice a day between 6:30 to 9 am and 6:30 to 9 pm.

Our players have bagged prizes in various suburban tournaments and this win will not only open windows of opportunities for them to participate in district level events, but also help in finding place in reputed city and district squads.” said Patil. “We are thankful to our coach-Sadanand Patil for dedicatedly training us and commissioner- Sanjay Katkar for providing needed facilities. Our team is committed to work harder to further enhance our performances.” said captain of the team-Bhargavi Mhatre.
