In an accident at the Dharavi-Mahim Junction early Friday morning, a trailer collided with vehicles parked alongside the Mithi River, throwing five vehicles into the water.
“The incident occurred at 6.50am at Kemkar Chowk, T junction, near Abhinandan Bar in Sahu Nagar. Staff from Mumbai Fire Brigade and police rushed to the spot immediately. The vehicles were removed with the help of a hydra crane,” the disaster control room said. No injuries were reported in the accident. However, the trailer driver is in police custody and a case of accident has been registered in Sahu Nagar police station.
Senior police inspector, Manik Nalawade said, “The trailer driver was taking a turn when he lost control and dashed the vehicles parked. The vehicles went into the water breaking the beautification wall installed by the BMC. Fortunately, an outward mishap was avoided as no person was present in the vehicles, which fell into the river. The driver is in police custody and a case of accident is registered,” the officer said.
The vehicles, which fell into the water included taxis and mini-tempo. The water in the Mithi river was not deep and the vehicles could be pulled out with the help of a hydra crane. The residents too came ahead to help the firefighters and policemen to pull out the vehicles from the nullah.
