In a tragic accident at a private hospital in the Medical Police Station area near Hapur Chungi in Meerut, a pregnant woman died on Thursday evening. According to reports, the woman and three others were in the elevator at Meerut’s Capital Hospital when the lift’s cable snapped, leading to a fatal accident. The pregnant woman lost her life as her neck got trapped, while three other occupants, including a doctor, sustained minor injuries.

The incident caused panic and anger among the woman’s relatives, who vandalised hospital property. The situation escalated, forcing the hospital staff to flee. Police intervened to calm the crowd and restore order.

The accident occurred at Capital Hospital, located in Hapur Chungi’s A-block. The pregnant woman was being transported in the lift alongside a doctor and other patients. Shortly after the lift started, it became stuck. When it eventually descended to the ground floor, the cable suddenly snapped, causing the lift to plummet. During the fall, the woman’s neck got trapped, leading to her death.

Eyewitnesses stated that after the accident, technicians were called to address the malfunction, but the chaos only intensified as the crowd gathered near the lift. Angry relatives began vandalising hospital equipment, furniture, and glass doors. Many patients and their families fled the hospital amidst the commotion.

Police, led by SP City Ayush Vikram Singh, managed to pacify the agitated crowd. SP Singh confirmed that the lift malfunction was the cause of the accident and assured that a detailed investigation is underway. Action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Chief Medical Officer Ashok Kataria stated that the pregnant woman had been rushed to Anand Hospital, where doctors confirmed her death. Authorities have assured a thorough inquiry into the hospital’s maintenance practices and the lift’s safety standards.
