Mumbai: Traffic Disrupted In Matunga After Container Truck Rams Into King Circle Bridge, No Injuries Reported; Photo Surfaces | Sumit Sharma FPJ

Mumbai: A container truck crashed into the King Circle Bridge in Matunga in the early hours of Saturday, causing traffic disruption on the southbound lane. The truck’s container became lodged under the bridge’s structure, blocking traffic and creating congestion. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

A photograph from the scene showed the container stuck under the bridge, highlighting the impact of the crash. Traffic police quickly responded to the situation and began efforts to remove the truck using a crane.

‘Efforts Underway To Restore Traffic,’ Says Official

“Traffic on the southbound lane is disrupted due to the accident. There was no loss of life. Efforts are underway to get the truck aside using a crane. Traffic will be restored shortly,” said a traffic police official.

Man Killed After Container Falls On Car

In a separate incident on the Mumbai-Goa Highway near Karnala Ghat, a car driver lost his life, and a woman was injured when a container from a speeding trailer fell onto their vehicle on the morning of February 9. The trailer driver fled the scene and police have launched a search operation to locate him.

The deceased, identified as 32-year-old Jagdish Hazra, was a resident of Mulund in Mumbai. He was employed as a driver for Pallavi Shrikant Joshi (56), who was also in the car at the time of the accident. The two were returning to Mulund from Poynad when tragedy struck.

Details Of The Accident

At around 9:30 am, as their car reached Karnala Ghat, a container from a speeding trailer suddenly fell onto their vehicle. The impact crushed Hazra, killing him on the spot, while Joshi, who was seated in the back, sustained minor injuries.

Upon receiving information about the accident, the Panvel Taluka Police rushed to the scene, rescued the victims and transported Joshi to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have since launched an investigation and are actively searching for the absconding trailer driver.
