Navi Mumbai: Raigad police has arrested three accused who killed a tourist at Alibag beach over breaking of a beer bottle. The murder happened close to midnight of November 30. Prathamesh Patil (27) and his friend Mitesh Patil (27), residents of Pen taluka had gone to visit the fun fair at Varsoli in Alibag on November 30.

After visiting the fair, the duo purchased chicken biriyani and beer bottles and went to the sea side at around 10 pm. After eating the food and drinking the beer, Prathamesh broke the beer bottle behind them on a stone.

Five men who were seated to the left side of the duo got irked with the sound of the bottle breaking and one of them started abusing the duo. The abuse, escalated further and Mitesh who got afraid of the situation, started running away towards their parked two wheeler.

While MItesh was running, one of the five men grabbed him from behind and called upon his friends and asked them to kill Mitesh. One of the five men, took out a knife which they were already carrying and stabbed Mitesh multiple times. While Prathemesh tried to save, he too received injuries.

The one who was grabbing Mitesh from behind, too got stab injuries and the other accused men rushed to take their friend to hospital while Prathamesh managed to make Mitesh sit on the two wheeler and rode to Alibag Civil hospital which was around 250 metre away from the beach.

“When Prathemesh reached the hospital, he saw the accused men had brought their injured friend as well to the same hospital and from there he got to know the name of the one who grabbed Mitesh from behind as Omkar Suresh Bhukwar,” police inspector Balasaheb Khade from Raigad Local Crime Branch (LCB), said.

By around 12.18 pm, the hospital authorities declared Mitesh dead after which a case of murder was filed by Prathamesh with Alibag police. “We had got the details of the accused from the one who was already admitted in the hospital and accordingly we traced the three remaining accused from Akshi village,” Khade added.

The three accused later arrested have been identified as Raj Raman Jaygadkar, Prathamesh Shekhar Ghodekar and Pramod Kisan Sathvilkar.

According to police, all the accused were localites who worked on fishing boats and also had criminal record. Meaanwhile, the complainant too had fishing business while the deceased worked with JSW company in Wadkhal.
