Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The newly declared Madhav Tiger Reserve in Shivpuri is witnessing a sharp rise in tourist footfall ever since it received its official tiger reserve status in early March.

Previously known as Madhav National Park, the reserve had struggled to attract visitors, with only around 1,500 tourists visiting throughout last year. However, since March 11, nearly 400 tourists have already visited the park, marking a significant increase.

Deputy Director of Madhav Tiger Reserve, Priyanshi, stated that earlier, the park had a low number of visitors due to limited wildlife attractions. However, with the upgraded status as a tiger reserve, public interest has surged, drawing more wildlife enthusiasts and tourists to the region.

The park authorities are now expecting a further rise in visitor numbers as awareness about the reserve spreads.

Another tiger at parksoon A tigress translocated from Panna Tiger Reserve has successfully adapted to her new habitat in Madhav Tiger Reserve, which was officially inaugurated as a tiger reserve earlier this month. Since her release into the wild, the tigress has already hunted and killed two prey, signalling a smooth transition into the new environment.

Authorities are now preparing to bring another tiger to Madhav Tiger Reserve. Initially, the big cat was supposed to be translocated from Pench Tiger Reserve, but officials have now also reached out to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve to identify a suitable tiger for the move.

“Most likely, the next tiger will now come from Bandhavgarh,” said an officer from Madhav Tiger Reserve.

Currently, the reserve is home to six tigers, including three tigresses, one tiger and two cubs.

With the arrival of another male tiger, the total number of big cats in Madhav Tiger Reserve will increase to seven.
