Mumbai: An 18-month-old boy tragically lost his life, and his mother sustained serious injuries after a car hit them on Saturday, while they were sleeping on a footpath in Mumbai’s Wadala area, a police official confirmed on Sunday. The incident occurred late Saturday night on Balaram Khedekar Road, according to the RAK Marg police station.
“Priya Nikhil Londhe, 29, and her son Vardaan were sleeping on the footpath when a speeding car driven by Kamal Vijay Riya hit them. The toddler died on the spot, while Priya sustained serious injuries. Riya, 46, was arrested under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions for causing death by negligence,” the officer said, as per media reports by PTI.
As per preliminary reports, Riya was not drunk at the time of the accident, the official added.
Second Incident Reported in Ambernath
In a shocking incident near Ambernath, located 54 km from Mumbai, a trailer driver, reportedly drunk, caused chaos on Thursday afternoon.
The driver, who was driving erratically in the wrong direction on Badalpur Pipeline Road, first crashed into a vehicle at Nevalkar Naka. He then continued to collide with several other vehicles along the route, including those at Palegaon, Ambernath Anandnagar Police Chowki, Vaibhav Hotel Chowk, and Sudama Hotel Chowk.
The drunk driver collided with many cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws, even hitting a police vehicle in the process. Reports also suggest that the driver assaulted a motorcyclist with a rod. The videos of the incident have surfaced online, showing the driver moving the vehicle back and forth, repeatedly hitting the stranded vehicles on the road.
Furious with the driver’s actions, some people threw stones at the truck, while others recorded the video of the collisions.
