Chhoti Diwali 2024: Today is Narak Chaturdashi and it is also called Chhoti Diwali, Narak Chaturdashi. The day before Diwali is celebrated as Chhoti Diwali (Kali Chaudash). Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshiped on the day of Diwali. When Yamraj is worshiped on the day of Chhoti Diwali.
On the day of Chhoti Diwali i.e. Kali Chaudash, 12 lamps are lit in the house and Hanuman Jayanti is also celebrated on this day. Lord Krishna is also worshiped on this day, because on this day he killed Narakasura. It is said that if Yamraj is worshiped on this day, there is no risk of untimely death and health also remains good.

Narak Chaturdashi Tithi is starting on 30th October i.e. today at 1:15 pm and will end tomorrow on 31st October at 3:52 pm. On this day, Abhyang Sanna Muhurta will be from 5.20 am to 6.32 am on 30th October.
Choti Diwali 2024 Puja Rituals
Before Chhoti Diwali, a pot is filled with water on Ahoi Ashtami of Krishna Paksha in Aso month. On the day of Narak Chaturdashi, there is a tradition of mixing water from this pot in the bathing water. It is believed that by doing this one gets freedom from the fear of hell. After bathing, prayers are offered to Yamraj with folded hands towards the south. By doing this one gets freedom from the sins committed throughout the year.
Remove unnecessary items from the house on this day
On this day, light an oil lamp outside the main entrance of the house for Yamraj. On the day of Narak Chaturdashi, after worshiping each deity in the evening, light an oil lamp and place it outside the house, above the threshold of the door on both sides and at the entrance of the workplace. It is believed that by doing this, Goddess Lakshmi always resides in the house. On this day during Nishith period, useless things should be thrown out of the house. It is believed that on the second day of Narak Chaturdashi i.e. Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi enters the house, hence dirt should be removed from the house.
Special measures to be taken on the day of Chhoti Diwali
- Yama, the god of death, is worshiped on this day.
- On this day, light lamps in the entire house and pray facing south. Due to which one also gets blessings of ancestors.
- Worshiping Lord Krishna on the day of Narak Chaturdashi is considered especially fruitful.
- On this day, serve cows and feed them green fodder.
- On the day of Chhoti Diwali, the family deities should be worshipped. Along with this, a lamp should also be lit in the name of ancestors.
- On the day of Chhoti Diwali, light oil lamps in both the corners of the main entrance of the house. By doing this, Goddess Lakshmi resides in the house.
- Mother Kali should also be worshiped on this day. In Bengal this day is celebrated as the birthday of Kali. Therefore it is also known as Kali Chaudas.
- On this day, one should wake up in Brahma Muhurta and massage the body with sesame oil. That is why it is also called Roop Chaturdashi.
