Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) minister and former Union Minister Babul Supriyo and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former Calcutta High Court Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay on Friday late evening got into a verbal brawl on Vidyasagar Setu near state secretariat Nabanna.

Talking to the media, Babul said that Gangopadhyay had abused him when he asked him to instruct his driver to drive carefully.

“Firstly, he has illegally installed hooter on his car. I just went to tell him that his driver was doing rash driving. He has been in an abusive mood since the beginning. He started abusing my family as well. I also abused him back and asked him just to say ‘sorry’ which he refused to say. This is not expected from a respected former Justice,” said the singer-turned-politician.

Countering the claims of Babul Supriyo, Gangopadhyay alleged that Babul was drunk when he was driving.

“My window glass was down, he came and due to his body movement, my mobile fell down and got partly damaged. He started abusing me and he was in a drunken condition. I said I will get you arrested by CISF. For him the traffic of the area got disrupted,” mentioned the former Calcutta High Court Justice.

Supporting Babul, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that the video footage made it clear that Babul is ‘not’ wrong.

“The former Justice used to be rude at times. But now he has forgotten that he is a former Justice,” added Ghosh.

BJP state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar said, “Not just state minister, Babul is a singer of the state. Such a behaviour is not accepted from Babul. Don’t know where Bengal is heading under the TMC regime.”
