Six consecutive earthquakes occurred within an hour on Tuesday morning in the mountainous region of Tibet bordering Nepal, including a powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale. The earthquake has damaged property and killed 53 people in Tibet. The earthquake has caused huge devastation in Shigatse, Tibet. There was extensive damage to infrastructure, including many buildings.

 

53 people died in 7.1 magnitude earthquake

China’s official news agency Xinhua reported that 53 people were killed and several were injured after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Dingri County in Xichang Autonomous Region (Shigatse City, Tibet). Earthquake tremors were also felt in many parts of India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan.

Many buildings near the epicenter of the earthquake have also collapsed.

 

On Tuesday morning, strong earthquake tremors were felt in various parts of North India including Sikkim, other northeastern states, Bihar and West Bengal. After a strong earthquake in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu, people came out of their homes and ran into the streets and open spaces.

According to Chinese media, several buildings also collapsed near the epicenter of the earthquake. “Strong tremors were felt in Dingari County and surrounding areas, and several buildings collapsed near the epicenter,” China’s public broadcaster CCTV said.
