The Thane Police Commissionerate successfully solved three separate murder cases within 24 hours, leading to the swift arrest of the accused in each incident.

Kalwa Murder: Man Killed Over Personal Dispute

On March 7, the Kalwa police received information about a man who was brutally attacked with a stone. Officers rushed to the scene and took the victim to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The deceased was identified as Anil Behera (35), originally from Jharkhand.

Senior Inspector Ashok Utekar of Kalwa police station said, “We analyzed CCTV footage from the area and used technical intelligence to track the suspect. A man identified as Santosh Lad (45), a resident of Kalwa, was detained for questioning. During interrogation, he confessed to killing Anil over a personal dispute.”

Mumbra Murder: Suspicion of an Illicit Affair Leads to Killing

The second incident was reported in the Shilphata area of Mumbra on March 11. Locals alerted the police after discovering a murder in Khan Compound. The victim, Zakir Molla (39), was found dead, and the accused was identified as Ashraful Molla (34).

According to the police, Ashraful was in a romantic relationship with a woman named Priya but grew suspicious that Zakir was involved with her. Acting on his suspicions, Ashraful invited Zakir for a drinking session, waited until he fell asleep, and then slit his throat with a sharp weapon. A police team laid a trap at Kalyan railway station, where they apprehended Ashraful. He later confessed to the crime.

Mumbra Murder: Phone Theft Turns Deadly

The third murder was reported at Mumbra police station on March 12. A 25-year-old man, later identified as Mohammad Rahul Azim Raeen (25), was admitted to Kalwa Hospital with throat injuries. He was later shifted to Sion Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Investigations led to the arrest of Sadique Sayyed (19), a resident of Mumbra. Police said that Sadique had stolen four to five mobile phones, including one belonging to the victim. When Rahul confronted him about the theft, a heated argument ensued. In response, Sadique attacked his throat with a sharp cutter before fleeing the scene.
