Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced here on Saturday that three dedicated ghats would be constructed at different lakes in the city for Chhath Puja. He also assured that a grand fair would be organised with government participation, ensuring that devotees had proper facilities to celebrate the festival.

The announcement came at the first-ever Bihar Diwas event organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its office situated in the GPO area. Addressing a large gathering of Bihar-origin residents, CM Yadav responded to demands for proper ghats at Tigriya Badshah and Piplyahana lakes.

He went a step further, confirming that three ghats would be built across different lakes in the city to accommodate the growing number of Chhath Puja devotees. He emphasised the government’s commitment to preserving cultural traditions and ensuring that festivals like Chhath were celebrated with dignity and proper facilities.

Highlighting the strong historical ties between Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, CM Yadav spoke about the migration of people from Malwa to Bihar during Raja Bhoj’s reign. He noted that the influence of Malwa was still visible in Bihar today, particularly through the ‘Ujjainiya Thakur’ community.

He also pointed out that rivers like Chambal and Soan connected Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, symbolizing the strong relationship between the two states. Former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who was present during the event, addressed the Bihar-origin residents and urged them to integrate into the city while maintaining their cultural heritage.

He encouraged them to contribute to Madhya Pradesh’s development and work towards becoming model citizens. Prasad also emphasized the need for discipline within families, urging people to ensure that Bihar stayed on the right path.

Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, also present at the event, backed the demand for Chhath Puja ghats, saying that most of Indore’s Bihar-origin residents came from regions along the river Ganga. He requested CM Yadav to construct the ghats and organize a two to three-day fair to celebrate the festival, which the chief minister readily agreed to.

Water resources minister Tulsi Silawat called the event a confluence of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, comparing it to the meeting of the Narmada and Ganga rivers. He expressed confidence that the unity of both the states would give a boost to the country’s progress.

CM reminds of Malwa-Bihar connection

Chief minister Mohan Yadav highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Bihar and Malwa during the Bihar Diwas. Speaking to the media, he traced this connection back to the era of Raja Bhoj, emphasizing that during his rule, people from Malwa, Ujjain, and Indore migrated to Purvanchal (present-day Bihar) for refuge when invaders attacked.

Praising Bihar’s contribution to India’s intellectual and administrative fields, he acknowledged the significance of ancient learning centres like Nalanda and Takshashila. He also lauded Bihar for producing the highest number of IAS and IPS officers, congratulating its people for their academic excellence and strong presence in India’s governance.

Invitation to President for Gudi Padwa

CM Yadav shared that he had invited President Droupadi Murmu to participate in a special Gudi Padwa celebration in Ujjain. He also briefed her on the development initiatives undertaken in Madhya Pradesh, highlighting the state’s progress and growing national significance.
