The illegal immigrants (Left to Right): Mohammad Shaheed Akas Ali Shaikh, Chanchal Hussain Anil Sardar, and Firdosh Mohammad Kasim Gaji |

On April 24, 2024, Police Inspector Milind Kathe, in charge of the Crime Intelligence Unit, received confidential information about Bangladeshi nationals illegally residing in India using forged documents. The suspects allegedly entered the country without proper travel papers and fraudulently obtained Indian citizenship documents. Acting on the tip-off, police teams laid a trap near Vishnu Nagar, opposite MHADA Colony, RCF, Chembur, where the suspects were expected to arrive.

The police detained the suspects and registered a case at RCF police station. Charges were filed under sections 465, 466, 467, 471, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with sections 3(a) and 6(a) of The Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950, and sections 3(1), 13, 14(a), and 14(b) of The Foreigners Act, 1946. The case was handed over to Unit-2 for further investigation.

Police Inspector Dilip Tejankar conducted a thorough investigation and submitted a chargesheet in court. During the trial, Additional Chief Magistrate Kanchan Zanwar of the 8th Judicial Court found the accused guilty based on the evidence presented. The court sentenced the three accused—Mohammad Shaheed Akas Ali Shaikh, Chanchal Hussain Anil Sardar, and Firdosh Mohammad Kasim Gaji—under IPC sections 465, 468, and 471, as well as relevant sections of The Passport Act, 1950, and The Foreigners Act, 1946, imposing imprisonment and fines.

Since January 1, 2025, a special Crime Branch drive to curb Bangladeshi infiltrators has resulted in 28 cases being registered, with 42 Bangladeshi nationals arrested. Additionally, one Indian citizen was apprehended for aiding illegal immigrants. Authorities also confiscated 14 forged Aadhaar cards, four PAN cards, four voter ID cards, and three Bangladeshi passports during the operations. Investigations in these cases are ongoing under the supervision of the Crime Branch.
