The thrill of IPL matches continues. The thrill of matches continues in IPL 2025, but whenever it comes to IPL, a name always comes to mind and that is Lalit Modi, who started the IPL matches in India. Who started the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time in India in 2008, is a fugitive to India today. Former IPL president and fugitive Lalit Modi has recently applied to renounce his Indian citizenship. He was looking for Vanuatu’s citizenship, but could not find it.

Lalit Modi comes first as soon as the mention of IPL is mentioned. Cricket in India is very close to heart. It was not easy to start an IPL game in such a country. He also put his career at stake to start the IPL. IPL was a completely new format of cricket in India. Who will invest money in IPL and why, why will a team buy, how will the team buyers earn?

No one could understand what they would get by paying money, no one could understand how this format would earn money due to the new format. Because there was neither property nor any stadium here. All these questions were such that only Lalit Modi was answering. Lalit Modi was explaining to the team franchisees that what will he get if someone would invest money in IPL?

Lalit Modi used his relations to persuade Bollywood industrialists to buy IPL teams and thus started the IPL match in the year 2008. Lalit Modi, who has worked in Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association, Rajasthan Cricket Association and Punjab Cricket Association, had now established his dominance in BCCI. He was the Commissioner of IPL from 2008 to 2010.

Lalit Modi is not only a cricket lover but also the owner of the company of crores. Lalit Modi is the president of Modi Enterprises. Even after leaving India, he was handling the responsibilities of Modi Enterprises. These 12,000 crore companies do business in agriculture, tobacco, paan masala, mouth freshener, confectionery, retail, education, cosmetics and entertainment.
