Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A thief fled with Rs 7 lakh from the car of a farmer after he mistakenly forgot to lock the car and went to a trader’s shop in Sikh Mohalla under MG Road police station limits on Thursday evening.

The police suspect that the accused might belong to a gang from the southern part of India and are also investigating whether only he was involved in the theft or he had any accomplices.

The farmer was returning home in Shajapur after selling potatoes at Choithram Mandi with the payment received. He parked his car on the roadside and went to a nearby shop to purchase some items.

When he returned, he found the bag containing Rs 7 lakh kept in the car was missing.

MG Road police station in-charge Vijay Singh Sisodia said that one Govind Patidar lodged a complaint stating that after selling potatoes and collecting the payment, he went to Kundan Traders located in Sikh Mohalla. When he returned to the car, the door was open and the bag containing Rs 7 lakh was missing. CCTV footage from the vicinity were being scrutinised in which a man was seen fleeing with the bag.

The police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of BNS and further investigation is underway.
