DMK Waqf Bill will challenge the Supreme Court: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has criticized the Waqf Bill approved in the Lok Sabha yesterday. He has announced challenging the Waqf Bill in the Supreme Court. CM Stalin has also assured that Tamil Nadu will fight firmly on the Waqf Bill and achieve success.
The Chief Minister said in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, “We criticize the Waqf Bill.” Tamil Nadu will fight the issue in the Supreme Court and will succeed in the fight. DMK MLAs expressed their anger against the approval of the bill by tying banners and placards in the assembly.
This bill will weaken religious harmony
Chief Minister Stalin reminded the House that on March 27, a proposal was made in the Tamil Nadu Assembly demanding withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Bill. It said that this bill weakens religious harmony. And this adversely affects the minority Muslim community. Most political parties across India have opposed this bill. Nevertheless, it was approved in the Lok Sabha. This is extremely condemnable. Although it was approved in the Lok Sabha, a large number of votes were cast in protest, which cannot be ignored.
Significantly, a total of 288 MPs in the Lok Sabha have approved the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, while 232 MPs opposed it. Considering these figures, Stalin said that the opposition could have been stronger. This law will be completely withdrawn. The time and method of approving the bill have also been criticized.
The time and way of approving the bill is wrong.
Stalin said that the way of presenting and approving this sensitive law is wrong at two o’clock in the late night, ignoring the opposition of most political parties of the country. This is a direct attack on the Constitution. And it is also an attempt to spoil communal harmony. We will challenge this bill in the Supreme Court and will continue legal and political fight against it.
The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has been approved in the Lok Sabha after a long debate on 12 April. The opposition has described it as anti -Muslim and harmful to the principles of secularism. While the government has described it as welfare for minorities.
