Gautam Gambhir: With the new year 2025, many changes are being prepared in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Under the same, BCCI has announced to call a special general meeting in Mumbai on January 12. The main agenda of this meeting is the election for the post of Secretary and Treasurer. Newly appointed Devjit Saikia will take charge. Whose tenure will be till September 2025. Whereas Treasurer Arun Dhumal has completed his two terms due to which he had to leave the post.
Many questions regarding Gambhir’s coaching
According to a report, the performance of Gautam Gambhir and his coaching team may be discussed in this meeting. Although this is not the core issue, due to the recent disappointing performance of the team, there is increasing resentment among some board members regarding Gambhir’s coaching. The 1-3 defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has put the Indian team in deep trouble.
ICC Champions Trophy turning point for Gambhir
The biggest risk for Gautam Gambhir is that the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 could prove to be a turning point for his coaching. If India does not even reach the semi-finals in this tournament, then many questions will be raised regarding Gambhir’s coaching. The reason behind the recent failures of the Indian team is its continuous poor form and injuries to key players. The performance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was worse than expected. At the same time, due to the injury of Jasprit Bumrah, the bowling attack of the team has become weak.
Gautam Gambhir’s coaching tenure
In September 2024, Gautam Gambhir took over as the coach of the Indian team. At that time the Indian team was at the top position after winning the T20 World Cup. At that time India was in a very strong position in Test and ODI also. Gambhir started his coaching tenure by defeating Bangladesh 2–0 in the Test. But after this the team’s performance continued to decline. The Indian team had to face defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in the ODI series. After this, India lost the Test series against New Zealand 0-3 on home ground. Which happened for the first time in the history of Indian cricket. After this, India also had to face defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
