Pakistan once again accused India of questioning the rights of minorities, while the reality is that the situation of Hindu, Sikh and other religious minorities in Pakistan itself is continuously deteriorating. His life and property, religious places and freedom are constantly being attacked.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s answer

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar raised the issue of harassment of minorities in Pakistan in the Lok Sabha.

  • He said that Pakistan is a country with a radical mentality, whose thinking cannot be changed.

  • This staunch thinking of Pakistan could not change till Indira Gandhi.

  • The government keeps raising the issue of harassment of minorities in Pakistan on international forums including the United Nations.

Pakistan’s retaliation and baseless allegations

Following Jaishankar’s statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry accused India of discrimination against minorities.

  • The Pakistani spokesperson claimed that his government was working to protect minorities.

  • However, the reality is that attacks on Hindu, Sikh, Christian and Ahmadiyas communities are common in Pakistan.

Atrocities on minorities in Pakistan

Reports of atrocities on minorities in Pakistan are worrying.

  • In February, 10 cases of atrocities on Hindus, 2 cases of oppression of Sikhs, 1 person from Christian community and 1 case were registered against Ahmadiyya community.

  • Kidnapping, forced conversion, attacks on temples and fake blasphemy cases have become common.

  • The action taken by the police on Hindu students playing Holi was also revealed.

  • Reports suggest that the population of Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan is continuously decreasing, as they are forced to either accept Islam or leave the country.
