News India Live, Digital Desk: The largest university in asia: Many famous universities are located in Uttar Pradesh, but do you know that Asia’s largest residential university is also present in UP? Banaras Hindu University – BHU, located in Varanasi, is also known as Kashi Hindu University in Hindi, not only Asia but one of the largest residential universities in the world. Its vastness is so much that the famous Oxford University of Britain also looks small in front of it.

Kashi Hindu University was founded on 4 February 1916 on the auspicious day of Vasant Panchami by Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. The complex of BHU is spread over a huge area of about 1300 acres, or about 5.3 square kilometers.

The buildings of this university are a great example of Indo-Gothic architecture. Every year more than 30 thousand students enroll in various courses and complete their studies and give their career flying around the world.

There is an interesting story behind the establishment of Banaras Hindu University. It is said that the land for this university was donated by the then king of Varanasi, Kashi King. He told Mahamana Madan Mohan Malaviya that as much land he takes on foot in a day will be given as much land in the name of the university. After this, Pandit Malaviya walked throughout the day and measured an area with about 11 villages, 70,000 trees, 1,000 pucca wells, 20 raw wells, 860 raw houses and 40 pucca houses. This is the reason why the campus of BHU is so wide today.

Additionally, it is said that the king of Banaras also donated a temple and Dharamshala for the construction of BHU.

University facilities: The Banaras Hindu University hostel (hostel) is also quite vast and well -organized, with large and comfortable rooms for students. BHU is also known for education as well as its brilliant campus and world-class facilities.
