The Supreme Court has described the spread of pornographic content on OTT and social media as a matter of concern. Also, a notice was issued to the Central Government during the hearing of a petition seeking appropriate action in this case. Along with this, the Supreme Court also told the petitioner that it is actually a government case, presently there are many allegations that we are intervening.

The petition filed in the Supreme Court has demanded that at present, pornographic material is being provided on the platforms providing online videos, pictures etc. like social media and OTT, which are having serious impact on children, minors and youth. If it is not stopped, it can also have an impact on the society and the mental state of those who receive this material can also be worse. At the moment, there is no filter to prevent this pornographic material.

Commenting on the case, a bench of Supreme Court Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George said that this is an important and worrying issue. The government will have to take steps to deal with this problem. This is not a matter of our jurisdiction, there are many allegations that we are interfering in the functioning of the government. This existing case is not in our jurisdiction, the government should do something.

Whereas Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, presented by the central government, said that strict rules will be implemented to prevent such content already, strict rules will be implemented. Currently, the Supreme Court has also issued notice to other social media and OTT platforms including the Central Government, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Owl Digital Platform, Alt Balaji, Twitter, Meta (Facebook), Instagram, YouTube and seek response.
