Thane Traffic Police crack down on drunk driving and helmet violations during Holi | Representational Image

Thane: The Thane traffic police carried out a special drive against drinking and driving during the Holi festival and penalized 266 individuals. Moreover, the police found 844 individuals without helmets during the Holi festival and penalized them. They also penalized 381 individuals for riding triple seats during the Holi festival.

Pankaj Shirsat, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, “A blockade was conducted at 49 spots in Thane city, including the Ulhasnagar division, Kalyan division, Bhiwandi division, Wagale division, and Thane division, on Friday to keep a tab on individuals found driving vehicles after consuming liquor.”

In the Thane division, a total of 34 cases of drunk driving, 103 cases of riding without helmets, and 19 cases of triple seat riding were reported during Holi as part of the special drive.

In the Wagale division, a total of 54 cases of drunk driving, 398 cases of riding without helmets, and 48 cases of triple seat riding were reported during Holi as part of the special drive.

In the Bhiwandi division, a total of 51 cases of drunk driving, 151 cases of riding without helmets, and 22 cases of triple seat riding were reported during Holi as part of the special drive.

In the Kalyan division, a total of 56 cases of drunk driving, 153 cases of riding without helmets, and 98 cases of triple seat riding were reported during Holi as part of the special drive.

In the Ulhasanagar division, a total of 71 cases of drunk driving, 39 cases of riding without helmets, and 194 cases of triple seat riding were reported during Holi as part of the special drive.

The police said that along with traffic police personnel, police station staff were deployed at different locations in the city for taking action against drunken drivers, triple riding, triple seat riding and wrong side driving.
