Thane: The Thane Sessions Court sentenced a peon of the Thane Municipal Corporation to one year of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a bribery case in 2016. The man who was convicted has been identified as Rajesh Yashwant Jadhav, who is posted in the water supply department of TMC.
Accroding to the ACB press release, complainant’s acquaintance person who needed water tap connections from the water supply department of TMC. He made an application seeking a water connection. The accused Jadhav met with him about it for expedite work and demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 for the water connections.
Following this, the complainant approached the Thane ACB and filed a complaint against him. Upon verification by the ACB team, they laid a trap and apprehended him while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000. Following this, an FIR has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Additional Sessions Judge Thane district S.S. Shinde sentenced him to one year of imprisonment for the offense under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and a fine of Rs 1000; if he defaults on paying the fine, then he will face one month of simple imprisonment.
Moreover, he will serve one year of rigorous imprisonment for an offense under Section 13(1)(D) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, or a fine of Rs 1000; if he defaults, he will be sentenced one month of simple imprisonment. A trap was led by Deepak Dalvi, Police Inspector, and the public prosecutor proved the prosecution charges against him.
