Thane: In a pivotal step towards enhancing security, vigilance, and surveillance, the Thane Rural Police have launched an initiative titled “One CCTV for Your Security” across the Thane rural limits, aiming to prevent crime and assist in fast investigations.

Under this initiative, the ‘One CCTV – For Your Safety’ initiative has prepared a list to install 4,500 CCTV cameras across 11 police stations within the Thane rural belt. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has envisioned this initiative.

The police said that under this initiative, they visited highways, jewellery shops, hotels, godowns, Gram Panchayats, residential societies, KDMC offices, petrol pumps, schools, ST stands, resorts, and even individual homes to educate citizens about the importance of CCTV surveillance in crime prevention, security, and assisting in quick investigations.

A total of 1,121 cameras were brought online and accessed live from the Thane Gramin Police office. The installation of CCTV cameras will assist in the prevention of crime, enhance safety and security for women, allow for vigilance regarding suspicious movements, traffic management and maintain law and order.

The CCTV control room was inaugurated at the Thane Gramin Police Station in the presence of Sanjay Darade, Special Inspector General, Konkan Range, Dr. D.S. Swamy, SP, Thane Gramin, and Bharat Tangade, Upper SP, Thane Gramin.

Sanjay Darade, Special Inspector General of Police, emphasized the vital role of public participation in enhancing security in the villages and at the intersections of the villages. We will appoint skilled experts in the control room who will monitor the busiest places, which will be helpful for the detection of crime.

We appealed to the citizens from various village establishments and temples to install CCTV cameras, particularly those that are internet-based and have access online to control room. The concerned owners of the establishments will take care of the CCTV cameras.

Dr. D.S. Swamy, SP from Thane Rural, said, “This is the first innovative initiative launched by the Thane rural jurisdiction. A total of ten LED screens have been installed in the control room. The installation of CCTV cameras will make our streets, businesses, and public spaces much safer. We can smoothly monitor the villages and localities to prevent crime.”

The response from the public has been highly positive, with many stepping forward to support the initiative by installing cameras outside their establishments and homes. With 1,121 cameras already operational, the initiative is well on its way to achieving its ambitious target of 4,500 CCTV installations.
