The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) will provide ‘Shadu’ clay and space to sculptors in the city free of charge to support the creation of eco-friendly Ganesh idols, officials announced on Friday.
According to TMC, sculptors must register with the civic body within 15 days to avail themselves of the Shadu clay and designated space. After registration, TMC will arrange for the required materials and land. Officials stated that they recently held a meeting with sculptors to promote environmentally friendly celebrations.
TMC emphasized its commitment to adhering to environmental guidelines set by the Bombay High Court and pollution control boards. The civic body aims to encourage idol makers to use eco-friendly clay instead of Plaster of Paris, which is non-biodegradable.
An official from TMC’s Pollution Control Department urged sculptors to register their demand for Shadu clay and space. Following registration, TMC will ensure that the necessary resources are provided.
