Thane Municipal Corporation disconnected a total of 2,606 water connections because they did not pay their arrears. The officials from TMC said that they seized a total of 411 motor pumps and sealed a total of 73 pump rooms in the month of December.

They issued notices to 2,330 arrears holders who did not pay their water bill dues. Even so, TMC collected Rs 77.98 crore in water bill payments from April to December,2024.

The Thane Municipal Corporation has initiated a drive to recover water bill arrears across the city. The total water bill amount is about 225 crores. Of the Rs 225 crores, Rs 76 crores are arrears. The remaining amount of Rs 148 crores is for the current year’s water bills.

Saurabh Rao, Commissioner of Thane Municipal Corporation, instructed Sandeep Malvi, Additional Municipal Commissioner, to continuously review the recovery of water bill arrears.

According to the civic officials, they will file cases against those individuals who reconnect their water supply without paying their water bills after being disconnected by TMC officers.

TMC appealed to the citizens of Thane that they should pay their water bill arrears on time; otherwise, they will disconnect their water supply. TMC will take action against the concerned water department officials if they do not take proper meter readings and collect water bill arrears.
