Thane: A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, identified as Altaf, died by suicide in Thane after allegedly being blackmailed by a married woman with whom he had an affair. In a series of distressing videos recorded before his death, Altaf is seen slitting his wrists, attempting to hang himself and consuming poison. His family has accused the police in both Thane and Unnao of avoiding responsibility by citing jurisdiction issues.

According to reports quoting his family, Altaf worked as a tailor in Thane but returned home last year following his mother’s death. His family urged him to stay and work in Unnao, where he soon became involved in a relationship with a married woman from his neighbourhood. When his family discovered the affair, they reprimanded him and sent him back to Thane.

Altaf Was Repeatedly Harassed, Claims Family

However, the woman allegedly continued to harass him even after he left. Altaf’s sister, Reshma, stated that the woman claimed to be pregnant and began demanding money from him, ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh. She allegedly threatened him with false accusations and legal action, pushing him into despair, reported NDTV.

Before taking his life, Altaf made a video call to the woman, telling her how much he was suffering because of her. Reshma claimed that the woman responded coldly, saying she had her husband and wouldn’t be affected by his death.

Four days later, Maharashtra Police informed Altaf’s family of his death. They travelled to Thane and buried him there, only later discovering the extent of the harassment he had faced. When they sought help from Maharashtra Police, they were directed to Unnao police, who in turn told them to register the case in Thane. Despite capturing the woman and bringing her to the police station, the family said they received no assistance.

According to the report, in his recorded messages, Altaf is heard saying, “I have lived long enough. No more.” One video shows his bloodied hand and a blade, while in another, he consumes rat poison, saying, “If something happens, let my family know.” His mouth begins foaming soon after.
