The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Thane raided a chakali and snacks factory in Mira Road on Friday, seizing products and materials worth ₹9.05 lakh. FDA officials stated that the factory was operating in unhygienic conditions, violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Acting on a tip-off from social activist Binu Varghese, the FDA raided M/s Morden Chakali and Foods, located at Chene, Belkadi Pada, Mira Road, Thane. The seized items included Szechuan Chakali, Masala Chakali, Reused Oil, Butter Chakali, and Masala Butter Chakali, weighing a total of 1,299 kg and valued at ₹9,05,230.

“We received the complaint on Thursday and conducted the raid under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Vigilance, Dr. Rahul Khade. The products were being manufactured in an unhygienic manner and were suspected to be adulterated,” said U.S. Bade, Food Safety Officer from Thane. “We have temporarily suspended the factory’s license until compliance with food safety and standards provisions is ensured.”

The raid was led by Dr. Rahul Khade and included Food Safety Officers U.S. Bade and S.B. Ankush. A panchnama was conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, and samples were collected and sent to a laboratory to determine their safety, the FDA said.
