In 2024, a total of 16,035 criminal offenses were registered in Thane Commissionerate. Out of these, 13,985 cases were solved, achieving a detection rate of 87 percent.

In murder cases, 85 murder cases were registered and solved with a 100 percent success rate through the arrest of 170 accused individuals. In attempted murder cases, a total of 167 cases were reported, all of which were solved with a 100 percent success rate and the arrest of 423 accused.

In dacoity cases, 10 cases were registered, of which 9 were solved, resulting in the arrest of 36 accused. The detection rate stood at 90 percent, with losses of over ₹40 lakh and the recovery of over ₹2,430. In cases of preparation for dacoity, 7 cases were registered and solved, leading to the arrest of 30 accused.

In house break-ins, 780 cases were registered, but only 315 were solved, with the arrest of 235 accused. The detection rate for these cases was 40 percent, involving the theft of belongings worth over ₹20 crores, with over ₹2.90 crores recovered. In theft cases, 246 cases were registered, and 165 were solved, resulting in the arrest of 275 accused. The detection rate was 67 percent, with stolen goods worth ₹1.56 crore, of which over ₹60 lakh were recovered.

In chain snatching cases, 213 cases were registered, with 168 cases solved and 77 accused arrested, achieving a detection rate of 79 percent. The total losses amounted to ₹1.66 crore, with over ₹55 lakh recovered. In other theft cases, 1,185 cases were registered, and 490 were solved, with 402 accused arrested. The detection rate stood at 41 percent, with losses worth over ₹16 crores and only over ₹3 crores recovered.

In motor vehicle theft cases, 1,351 cases were registered, with 513 cases solved and 516 accused arrested. The detection rate was 37 percent, with losses amounting to over ₹8 crores and over ₹3 crores recovered.

To prevent domestic violence against women, the Damini Squad, Police Kaka, and Police Didi were formed by the Thane Commissionerate. Additionally, a Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell was established at DCP Zone 2 Thane in Bhiwandi on July 1, 2024, to address domestic violence issues. A total of 2,262 male and 2,554 female missing reports were registered, and through police efforts, 1,634 males and 1,932 females were traced. A social media monitoring cell was set up in Thane, staffed with one police inspector and ten police Halwaldars who work 24 hours a day to monitor inappropriate posts and messages.
