Thalassa cantered home with the Western India Race Horse Owner’s Association Trophy, decisively beating Eaton Square at the Mahalaxmi Race Course on Sunday.

Initially placed last in this five-horse field over a challenging nine-furlong distance, Thalassa, commendably ridden by Indian Derby-winning jockey Sandesh, made a stunning comeback. With remarkable finesse and determination, Sandesh guided the filly to a commanding victory, crossing the finish line more than two lengths ahead of Eaton Square. This impressive performance marked Sandesh’s first win of the day, further strengthening his bid for the prestigious Champion Jockey Trophy this season.

As the race began, Splendido took an assertive lead, setting the pace from the moment the gates opened. He maintained his position comfortably until reaching the 1200-meter marker, at which point Eaton Square surged forward to seize control. While the frontrunners seemed poised for victory, Thalassa’s positioning at the back had many doubting her chances.

However, with a display of exceptional racing intelligence and determination, Sandesh strategically timed his move. Urging Thalassa forward with a well-calculated burst of speed, he maneuovered the filly through the field with ease. The duo’s seamless partnership culminated in a resounding win, leaving onlookers in awe.

This victory was a testament not only to Thalassa’s grit and stamina but also to Sandesh’s tactical brilliance. The jockey’s ability to gauge the race dynamics and execute a flawless finish has further cemented his reputation as one of the most skilled riders in the circuit.

As the season progresses, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Sandesh as he continues his pursuit of the Champion Jockey title.
