News India Live, Digital Desk: Terrorism: A major terrorist attack in Hyderabad has been thwarted by security agencies. Officials said on Sunday that two suspects have been caught, who are said to be associated with the Islamic State (ISIS). In intelligence operation by the counter intelligence wing of Andhra Pradesh Police and Telangana Police, suspects named Siraj ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28) were arrested. It is being told that both had planned a bomb blast at strategic places in Hyderabad.
Both individuals were suspected of working under the instructions of the ISIS module active in Saudi Arabia, giving them distance instructions. According to officials, these individuals allegedly acquired explosive substances such as ammonia, sulfur and aluminum powder, which are standard in the improvised explosive device (IED).
This action started with the arrest of Rahman in Vijayanagaram in Andhra Pradesh. Sameer was arrested in Hyderabad shortly after questioning Rahman. Both suspects are currently in police custody and will be produced in the local court for further legal proceedings.
Intelligence reports have shown that Rahman was tasked to receive explosive material, while the module present abroad was guiding both people about the details of the operation, which was aimed at allegedly carrying out coordinated attacks within the city.
The attack took place only a few weeks after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 civilians. As a result of the attack, India carried out Operation Sindoor, in which nine terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) were attacked from across the border.
Officials said failing this latest terrorist conspiracy underlines the increased vigilance of security organs across the country, especially after increasing threats from foreign terrorist networks using cyber and international networks.
Additional investigation is going on to detect any other relationship or potential co-operatives in India or abroad.
