A tunnel collapse of a tunnel collapsed on Saturday in Nagarakurranul district of Telangana, in which 8 workers are still trapped inside the tunnel. Telangana irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the government is also taking help of experts running relief operations in the Uttarakhand tunnel accident. In addition, the Army and NDRF teams are present at the scene.

How did the accident happen?

  • On Saturday morning, 50 workers went inside the tunnel in the first shift.

  • Suddenly 8 workers were trapped due to the collapse of the roof, while 42 people managed to get out.

Construction work was part of 44 km long tunnel project

This tunnel was being built for irrigation of 4 lakh acres of land in Nalgonda district under the Srisailam project. According to the Telangana government, it is one of the longest irrigation tunnels in the 44 km long world, of which 9.50 km is yet to be done.
