Eight laborers have been stranded since 22 February in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana. Since then, relief and rescue work is going on to save them, but no clue has been found from all the people trapped so far. Although 4 out of 8 people stranded on Saturday were discovered, their chances of survival are extremely rare.
Excise Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao gave this information.
State Excise Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao said on Saturday that the rescue operation has been successful after the tunnel collapsed and four of the eight stranded people have been found. State Excise Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao held a meeting with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and officials associated with the rescue operation on Saturday. After the meeting, Krishna Rao said that there has been a lot of progress in the last few days. He said that with the help of radar, four people trapped in the tunnel have been detected. He hoped that by Sunday evening all four stranded people would be evacuated.
Four people trapped in the tunnel were recovered.
The rescue team detected the four persons using the Ground-Phanetrating radar (GPR). The situation inside the tunnel is serious, which is why the government is taking so much time. He said that it seems that four other people are stranded under the tunnel digging machine (TBM). However, when he was asked about the four people whom he has received information, he said that he had said on the very first day that he is very less likely to escape. He said that rescuers are cutting 450 feet tall TBM. A total of 11 agencies including Army, NDRF, SDRF, SCCL, Fire Service, NGRI, Hydra, SCR Plasma Cutter and RAT Minors are engaged in rescue operations day and night.
Since 22 February, 8 people are stranded in the tunnel
Referring to the opposition parties criticizing the delay in the campaign, Minister Krishna Rao said that the people involved in the rescue operation are experts in their area, but the rescue operation is complicated in view of the situation including mud inside the tunnel. Since 22 February, eight people, engineers and laborers are stuck under the collapsed roof of Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel and rescue operations are in full swing to evacuate them.
