Telangana government’s major decision: The Telangana government on Wednesday issued an order to implement Telugu as a compulsory subject in Telangana as a compulsory subject in CBSE, ICSE, IB and other board affiliated schools. In the academic session 2025-26, Telugu will be applied as a compulsory subject for students of class 9.

This subject will be mandatory for students of class 10 from academic year 2026-27. The order states that the Telugu ‘Singidi’ for education and examinations will be replaced with simple Telugu ‘Venela’ with code 089 as per the CBSE subject list.

The notification states that as per the compulsory teaching and learning of Telugu in schools in schools, 2018, Telugu education should also be mandatory in CBSE, ICSE and IB schools.

What is the idea of Telangana government?

The Telugu ‘Venela’ textbook simplified for classes 9 and 10 will be used to encourage simplified teaching and interest in language. The Telangana government has taken this decision at a time when there is a conflict between the Tamil Nadu government and the Center regarding the language policy. Under the new language policy, the state governments will have to make the Tribhasha Education System compulsory including Hindi. Stalin Sarkar says that the Center cannot force Hindi language on the state.
