Telangana Announces Six-Day Break, Tamil Nadu Declares Five-Day Holiday For Pongal & Makar Sankranti | Representative Image

Tamil Nadu and Telangana state have decided to declare school holidays for the Pongal and Makar Sankranti festivals. School students will now get time to spend quality time with their families and participate in the respective festivals.

Telangana school

The Telangana Board of Intermediate Education has announced a six-day holiday for all intermediate colleges. The holiday starts from January 11 to January 16, 2025. Classes will resume on January 17, 2025, according to the media reports. The holiday is for all junior colleges, including government, private, and aided institutions.

Tamil Nadu school

Tamil Nadu has declared a five-day holiday for schools to celebrate Pongal, from January 14 to January 17, 2025. The longer break will allow students to take part in the festival’s celebrations and traditional activities.

Other States

Other states in the country have issued holidays on the day of Makar Sankranti for up to five or four days across different regions of the country. Some regions will have an extended weekend. The northern parts of the states will have longer weekends, as the southern state of Tamil Nadu and Telangana have made the holiday span up to an entire week long.
