New Delhi: 26/11 Tahawwur Rana, accused of Mumbai terror attacks, was brought to India on Thursday under tight security from the US. Earlier, the US handed over Rana to Indian authorities after an official campaign in California. His aircraft landed at Palam Airport in Delhi at 6.22 pm. He was then conducted medical examination and he was immediately arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

After the arrest, Tahwwur Rana was produced in Delhi’s Patiala House Court. Strict security arrangements were made during the court hearing. The hearing took place in a closed room. After the NIA presented other concrete evidence including email against Rana, the court ordered him to be sent to NIA custody for 18 days. He has been arrested for being the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

 

The extradition of India, facing serious allegations related to terrorism, is considered a major diplomatic success of India. However, to fulfill this victory, it will now be necessary to present appropriate evidence against him and prove his crime in court. For this, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken the investigation into its hand and is preparing for further action.

Who will fight Rana’s case?

Piyush Sachdeva graduated from Law College, Pune in 2011. He then completed his postgraduate studies in International Trade and Commercial Law in London. Therefore, he has intensive knowledge of domestic as well as international law.

 

Who will represent the government?

From the government in this matter Special Public Prosecutor Narendra Mann has been appointed . Narendra Mann is also a highly experienced lawyer who has previously worked as a special public prosecutor for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He also advocated the government in 2018 in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) paper leak case. Therefore, their experience will be useful in such complex cases.

What is the Current Status?

The NIA is currently arrested for 18 days of Rana. During the hearing in Patiala House Court, the NIA argued that many things related to Rana are yet to be revealed. He is suspected of contacting other terrorists to plot against India. So many important updates are likely to come in the next few days.
