Mumbai-Pakistani-Canadian citizen Tawwur Rana, accused of involvement in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, denied any role in the conspiracy during interrogation by the Mumbai Crime Branch. 11/26

According to senior officials, Rana is currently in custody of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Delhi. A team of four police officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch questioned Rana for more than eight hours. He did not cooperate in the inquiry. 64-year-old Pakistani-Canadian businessman Rana was extradited from the US earlier this month for alleged involvement in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Rana’s role in Mumbai terror attacks came to light during interrogation of his childhood friend and co-accused David Headley. Ten Pakistani terrorists were involved in the attacks in Mumbai on 26 November 2008. They entered Mumbai through the Arabian Sea. The attack lasted for about 60 hours and killed 166 people.

Rana, along with Headley alias Dawood Gilani and Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and other co-co-ordinators of Harakat-ul-Jahadi Islamic, are accused of carrying out a three-day attack in India’s financial capital Mumbai. In this case, Headley has confessed to spying on the entire country including Mumbai on behalf of Lashkar-e-Taiba.

During interrogation, Rana said that he had gone to Mumbai and Delhi besides Kerala. When he was asked about the purpose of his visit to Kerala, he claimed that he had gone to meet an acquaintance there. He gave the agency the name and address of the person.

Sources said that a team from Mumbai Crime Branch may soon go to Kerala. His claims can be confirmed and that person can be questioned. Officials said that during interrogation, Rana was mostly non -cooperative and did not give satisfactory answers. He mentioned the lack of memory. He also claimed that he did not remember special details about this attack at the age of 17.
