Tehwavur Rana was kept under strict supervision of NIA, monitoring ‘suicide watch’ continues

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken him into custody for 18 days after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Tehwavur Rana was extradited from India. At the NIA headquarters, Rana is placed in a special cell of 14 × 14 feet, where he is kept under strict supervision under the ‘Suicide Watch’.

According to a report, Rana is placed on the ground floor of NIA headquarters in Delhi and is being monitored round the clock with the help of human and CCTV cameras. Sources said that due to security reasons, Rana has been allowed to write only with a soft-tip pen, so that he does not harm himself.

Rana, 64, was handed over to Indian officials on Thursday, after which he was produced in a special court. The court sent him to an 18 -day NIA custody. Officials started questioning him on Friday, in which he was questioned about his alleged relations with ISI and his partnership with David Coleman Headley alias Dawood Gilani. Headley is suspected to play a role in activating sleeper cells in areas like Delhi, Goa and Pushkar in India.

Political response and dispute

There has also been a stir in the politics of the country regarding Rana’s extradition. The Congress party has taken a dig at the central government, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue. Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram said that the central government is trying to take credit for this process, while the truth is quite different from this.

Chidambaram said, “This extradition is not an achievement of any show, but it is evidence of what the Indian state can achieve when diplomacy, law enforcement and international cooperation is adopted with honesty and seriously.” He described this achievement as the result of the long -term efforts started during the UPA government. According to him, it is the result of diplomatic, legal and intelligence cooperation with the US for about one and a half decades, which has now come to light.
