The Australian team may face a big setback before the Champions Trophy 2025. Captain Pat Cummins, who made the Kangaroo team world champion under his captaincy, may miss this tournament. Pat Cummins has a swollen ankle and will need a scan.
After the scan it will be known how serious Cummins’s injury is. But according to reports, it is difficult for Pat Cummins to play in the mega event to be held in February.
Pat Cummins may be out
There is bad news for the Australian team which is preparing for the Champions Trophy. Team captain Pat Cummins may be out of the tournament due to injury. Cummins has sprained his ankle. The Kangaroo captain’s ankle will be scanned soon. After the scan it will be known how serious Cummins’s injury is. Recently, under the captaincy of Cummins, the Australian team performed brilliantly and captured the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years. The Kangaroo team defeated Team India 3-1 in the five-match series.
Cummins out of Sri Lanka series
Pat Cummins has also been rested for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Steve Smith has been given the captaincy in place of Pat Cummins. Pat Cummins is suffering from injury and hence he has not been included in the team. Pat Cummins led Australia to win the 2023 ODI World Cup under his captaincy. Along with winning the Test series against India, Australia has also confirmed its place in the final of the World Test Championship.
Australia is in Group B
Australia has been placed in Group B in the Champions Trophy 2025. The Kangaroo team will start its campaign against England on 22 February. After this, the team’s next match will be against South Africa on 25th February. Australia will face Afghanistan in the last match of the group stage on 28 February.
