Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh Government has chalked out an elaborate plan to ensure cent percent enrolment of the children in schools. The plan envisages reducing the number of dropouts and bringing them back to the mainstream of education.

Headmasters and principals of schools up to Classes 5, 8 or 10 have been given the power to enroll the passouts from their schools to the higher classes in the nearby schools. The headmaster of a Primary School (Up to Class 5) will have the right to grant admission to all students of his school who have cleared Class 5 examination to Class 6 in nearby Middle schools.

Direct admissions to schools will be continued

The headmasters of the middle schools and principals of High Schools will have similar powers with regard to High Schools and Higher Secondary Schools respectively. Direct admissions to schools will also continue.

As part of an exercise to ensure cent percent enrolment of students, teachers of schools have been visiting the weekly haat-bazaars in rural and semi-urban areas, where they inform the parents about the seats available in schools around and persuade them to get their wards admitted. The parents of children eligible for admission to Class 1 are being invited to schools for discussions with teachers and the headmasters.

According to an official from the Rajya Shiksha Kendra (RSK), instructions to this effect have been issued to all district collectors, CEOs of all district panchayats and the commissioners and chief municipal officers of all municipal corporations and municipal committees respectively.

Opening ‘Drop Box’

All the school students in Madhya Pradesh are tracked on the District Information System for Education (DISE) portal. A Permanent Education Number (PEN) is allotted to each student. If a student who was studying in a school in the academic session 2023-24 is not mapped to any school in 2024-25, then details of such students go to a ‘Drop Box’. The boxes of each district are being opened and teachers are assigned the task of visiting their homes and persuading their parents to readmit him or her to schools.
