A shocking incident has come to light from Odisha’s Balangir district, where a teacher was forced to attend school despite being unwell. The teacher alleged that he was denied leave, compelling him to go to school with a saline drip. Prakash Bhoi, a mathematics teacher at Bhainsa Adarsh Vidyalaya, had applied for leave after falling ill following his grandfather’s funeral. However, acting principal Bijayalakshmi Pradhan did not approve his leave and instead directed him to visit the District Education Officer (DEO) and DPC office.
Bhoi stated that when he reached the DPC office around noon, his condition worsened. He requested permission to visit the hospital, but the principal, unconcerned about his health, asked if he could return by 2 PM.
According to reports, Bhoi could not visit a private hospital as it was far from his village. He said, since he could not make UPI transactions due to some issues, he returned without getting treatment and worked until late evening in the office. “Despite repeated requests, madam did not allow me to leave,” he said.
Even after taking medicine at night, Bhoi’s condition did not improve. He once again requested leave from the principal, but she refused, insisting that attending school was necessary for exam preparations. Left with no choice, he decided to attend school with a saline drip as his health had deteriorated significantly.
Meanwhile, the principal has not responded to the allegations. This incident has gone viral on social media, with many people criticising the principal and arguing that the teacher should have been granted leave.
