Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai told Chief Minister M.K. Have resolved not to wear shoes and slippers until Stalin and his party DMK are ousted from power. While announcing this during a press conference in Coimbatore on Thursday, he took off his shoes and held them in his hands.

Government targeted in sexual harassment case

Annamalai strongly attacked the state government over the alleged sexual harassment of an Anna University student. He said, “Tomorrow I will protest in front of my house and flog myself 6 times. After this I will fast for 48 days and pray to Lord Murugan.”

The BJP leader said that demonstrations will be held in front of every party worker’s house and this movement will continue until DMK is out of power. He said, “This injustice will no longer be tolerated.”

AIADMK’s demonstration and police action

On the other hand, the main opposition party AIADMK also tried to protest in Chennai over the sexual harassment case of Anna University student. The party strongly condemned the DMK government and tried to take to the streets on this issue.

However, senior AIADMK leaders were detained by the police during the protest. Party leader D. Jayakumar accused the police of bias and questioned why DMK’s allies, such as Congress and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), were allowed to protest.

BJP leader Tamilisai Sundararajan also targeted the government

Senior BJP leader and former Governor Tamilisai Sundararajan also criticized the government. He said that the increasing incidents of sexual crimes are worrying and highlighted the inaction of the police. Sundararajan said, “Our right to protest is being violated.”

Increasing pressure on DMK government

BJP and AIADMK have put all-round pressure on the DMK government regarding the sexual harassment case. This issue has heated up in Tamil Nadu politics due to Annamalai’s protests and AIADMK’s activism. DMK is now facing sharp criticism from opposition parties on this issue.

It will be interesting to see how much impact this protest has in the state politics and what stand the DMK government takes on it.
