Former Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu and his fellow commentator expressed their excitement as MS Dhoni was walking out to bat during the IPL 2025 game against the Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur Stadium. The commentator was heard saying ‘Talwaar leke aa rahe hain aaj, balla nahin.’ (He is carrying sword with him and not a bat).

The former Super Kings skipper walked out when the visitors required 69 off the last 25 deliveries, with Lockie Ferguson dismissing Shivam Dube at a crucial juncture for 42 off 27 balls. Keeping in mind Dhoni’s intent and the decibel levels rising to 119, the commentator said on air:

“Mujhe lagta hai talwaar leke aa rahe hain aaj, balla nahin, bilkul chalega talwaar aaj. Dhoni ka talwaar chalega paaji. Chaal dekhiye. Pichli game mein aaraam se chal ke aa rahe they. Toh aaj Dhoni fearless Dhoni dikhenge aapko.”

(He is carrying sword with him and not a bat. That sword will work today. Look at his walk today. He wasn’t walking as swiftly in the last game. We will see a fearless version of MS Dhoni today)

MS Dhoni’s 12-ball 27 goes in vain as Super Kings lose four straight matches

The legendary keeper-batter showed a lot more intent than he did against the Capitals, hitting three sixes and a four in his 12-ball 27. However, the target of 220 proved to be a bridge too far for the Super Kings.

Although Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway stitched a 61-run opening stand, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s failure hurt them the most. Conway went on to build an 89-run partnership with Shivam Dube, but the wheels came off for them once the latter departed.

With that, the Super Kings have succumbed to their fourth defeat of the season and will next face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday.
