Mumbai 26/11 Tawwur Rana, accused of terrorist attacks, has been brought to India. Now the NIA has intensified legal action against him. The high-profile will be led by senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, who has played an important role in the matter earlier.

Mumbai 26/11 Tawwur Rana, accused of terrorist attacks, has finally been brought to India. Now India’s legal status is being further strengthened in this case. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has appointed senior advocate Dayan Krishnan as Chief Counsel for the case. Special Public Prosecutor Narendra Mann will cooperate with him, who has worked on behalf of the CBI in the Delhi High Court.
Krishnan was in the team interrogating Headley
Dayan Krishnan has an old relationship with this case. In 2010, he was part of the NIA team interrogating David Headley in Chicago, USA. Later in 2014, he was appointed as Special Public Prosecutor to represent India in the extradition cases of both Headley and Rana.
Tahwwur Rana had argued “double japardy” (not punished twice in the same crime) to avoid extradition in the US, but Krishnan proved in court that India’s allegations are of different nature. Due to his accurate legal pleas, the US court dismissed Rana’s petitions and India got his extradition.
Case fought without fees in Nirbhaya case
Dayan Krishnan is the same lawyer who fought a case without any fees in the Nirbhaya case. He had said that this is his duty towards society, and should not earn money from it. According to a senior NIA official, Krishnan presented a solid legal side from India in the US and completely satisfied the court on technical points.
Prestigious legal career
Dayan Krishnan’s legal career has been long and prestigious. He is a 1993 batch student of Bangalore -based National Law School (NLSIU) and has been practicing independent since 1999. He has presented the government in cases like Parliament attack case, Cauvery water dispute, telecom scam, Nitish Katara murder case and gift fire.
Other experts also involved in the legal team of trial
Advocate Sangi Seshadri, Sridhar Kale and other NIA lawyers will also cooperate with him in this case. At the same time, Special Public Prosecutor Narendra Mann will be associated with the case for three years or till the end of the case.
