Disha Vakani has been a part of many movies and TV shows. But, her most iconic character has been of Daya Ben from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. She left the show in 2017, and while there were multiple reports of her returning as Daya Ben, now reportedly, the makers have found her replacement. According to a report in News18, Asit Modi, the producer of the show, was conducting auditions for the role of Daya Ben and finally, he has shortlisted someone.
A source told the portal, “Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Daya ben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us.”
Disha got married in November 2015, and in 2017 she got pregnant. She went for a maternity leave and never returned to the show. There was a buzz in between that she might make a comeback, but in 2022, she was blessed with her second child. The actress has reportedly decided to quit acting.
Earlier, this year, while talking to News18, Asit Modi had said, “I believe Disha Vakani can’t be back. She has two children. She is like my sister. Even today, we have a very close relationship with her family. My sister Disha Vakani has tied a Rakhi to me. Her father and brother are also a family to me. You worked together for 17 years, and it became your extended family.”
Disha has surely left a strong mark as Daya Ben. Even though she left the show in 2017, till now, her performance is remembered and her scenes are used as memes on social media. It will be interesting to see which actress will replace Disha as Daya Ben. Whoever does it, will have big shoes to fill in.
Meanwhile, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been getting good TRP. It is mostly there in the top 10 shows of the week.
