Online food delivery platform is not taking the name of ending the problems of Swiggy. Recently, where the company received a tax demand notice of Rs 158 crore, now it has been given a tax notice of Rs 165 crore. This time the notice has been issued by the Profession Tax Officer of Pune.
Two tax assessment orders issued
Swiggy said in his regulatory filing that it has received two tax assessment orders for FY 2021-22, showing a total tax liability of Rs 165 crore. In one of these notices, a profession tax of Rs 7.59 crore has been sought directly by the tax officer of Pune.
What is allegation
The government order alleges that Swiggy did not make the necessary deduction of profession tax from the salary of its employees, which is mandatory under the Maharashtra State Business, Trade, Calling and Employment Tax Act, 1975.
However, SWIGGY in its response stated that it has solid grounds to challenge this order and is in the process of filing a review or appeal. The company made it clear that it would take all the necessary legal steps to protect its interests.
Talk of not having financial effects
Swiggy has also clarified that the profession tax case will not have any significant impact on its financial position or everyday operation.
This new notice has come at a time when the company received a tax demand notice of Rs 158 crore from Bangalore Income Tax Office a few days ago. In that notice, objections were raised about things like cancellation charge given to traders and interest received from income tax refund.
The company expressed confidence
Swiggy says that she has full faith in her legal status and will adopt a legal path against both these tax demand notices. The company also reiterated that these cases would not have any major negative impact on its financial performance and operations.
