The Supreme Court on Friday refused to hear the petitions seeking to register an FIR against Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Verma. This case is in connection with getting four to five bags filled with half -burn notes of 500 rupees during the fire in his bungalow.
The Supreme Court ruled that the case was being investigated by an internal committee. After the report of the committee, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) will have several options for action. It would not be appropriate to hear this petition under these circumstances. A bench of Supreme Court Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan stated the petition filed by both the lawyers ahead of time and said that the matter is under internal investigation. If the committee’s report finds that Justice Verma has done something wrong, then an FIR can be ordered to be ordered against him or the matter can be sent to Parliament. Today is not the time to think about it.
A lawyer of the petitioners said that the common man is asking why no FIR was filed on 14 March? Why there was no arrest or seizure? Why was no criminal law implemented? Why did the announcement of the incident take a week? At this stage, the bench said that internal investigation is going on. We cannot interfere at this level. All options are open before the Chief Justice. The applicant said that the common man would not understand this. Justice Oka asked the petitioner to inform the common man about the decisions of the Supreme Court.
