News India Live, Digital Desk: Supreme Court India: The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to consider a petition seeking a complete ban on “illegal” betting apps. The petition also sought strict regulation on online gaming and fantasy sports and enacting a comprehensive law.
A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice NK Singh issued a notice to the Center seeking a reply, but refrained from issuing notices to the state governments in the present phase. The petitioner claimed himself “a prominent social worker, humanitarian and president of the global peace initiative, who is dedicated to promote peace and justice globally”, saying that the PIL (PIL) was filed to protect discretion and democracy in India by banning the public interest petition (PIL) in the interest of millions and “illegal” betting apps.
It said that the petition was directly filed before the Supreme Court to protect Indian youth and weaker citizens from irregular online betting and gambling hazards, which are often introduced as fantasy sports and skill-based gaming. The petitioner said the petition was filed “in the widespread public interest for the protection of the youth of India from the irregular, exploiting and dangerous online betting industry operated under the guise of fantasy sports and skill-based gaming.
The petition stated, “Both online and offline betting is naturally a game of luck, not the game of skill, and therefore it comes under the purview of gambling, which is banned in many states under the Public Gambling Act, 1867.” It has also been said that there is no similar central law to regulate online betting.
In addition, the petitioner claimed that he is a global recognized peace ambassador, who have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by many countries including America, Norway, Sudan and India, as they have stopped many major wars through their peace efforts and saved 310 orphans and roads around the world around the world.
