Supreme Court Hearing on Waqf Amendment Act Today: Hearing on constitutional validity of Waqf Amendment Act in Supreme Court today

The Supreme Court will start hearing the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 from today. The act, which was passed during the recent budget session of Parliament, is facing heavy opposition from Muslim organizations, religious leaders, civil society and opposition parties. They allege that the government wants to establish control over the assets of Waqf through this law, while the government argues that this will improve the management of Waqf properties and bring transparency.

Peeth headed by Chief Justice will hear hearing

Under the leadership of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Sanjay Kumar and K.V. A three -member bench of Vishwanathan will hear the case. A total of 10 petitions in the case have been listed for hearing so far, including AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Aam Aadmi Party leader Amanatullah Khan, Association for the Protection of Civil Rights, Arshad Madani, all Kerala Jamiatul Ulama, Anjum Qadri, Tayyab Khan Salmani, Mohammad Shafi, Mohammed Shafi, Mohammad Fazlurrahim and Arjdi MP

Petitions of opposition parties and others also filed

Several other new petitions have also been filed in the Supreme Court against this law, including TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Samajwadi Party MP Zia-ur-Rehman Burke, YSR Congress Party, CPI and Tamil leader Vijay.

Advocate Harishankar Jain challenged on different grounds

Advocates Harishankar Jain and Mani Munjal have challenged the constitutional validity of the Waqf law on the basis that it violates the fundamental rights of non-Muslims. This petition has also been listed for hearing.

Government filed cavity

The central government has filed a cavity in the Supreme Court on April 8, under which the court has been informed that the government must be heard before passing any order on this subject.

AIMPLB also filed petition

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) also filed a petition in the apex court on April 6 against the Act. The petition claimed that weakening the protection of Waqf properties is discriminatory with Muslims, which is a violation of Articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution.

The first hearing of this case will be held in the Supreme Court today, in which arguments of different parties will be heard.
