New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear the recent violence case in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Tuesday. The hearing is being held on the petition of senior advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, seeking an independent inquiry from the implementation of President’s rule in the state, deployment of paramilitary forces, and three retired judges. Jain alleges that attacks are being carried out by targeting the Hindu community in Bengal, and the state government has failed to control the situation.
Judges raised serious questions
On Monday, Jain mentioned the case before the bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Augustine George Christ. The court agreed to hear the petition and commented:
“Do you want us to direct the Central Government to implement President’s rule?”
On this, advocate Jain said that the situation in the state is worrying and the Center should intervene for the safety of Hindus.
A petition is pending in court earlier also
Jain told the court that he had earlier filed a petition on violence after elections in Bengal, on which the Supreme Court had issued a notice in 2022. He said that this matter has now become more serious in the context of the same petition.
